Doing the right thing for Princeton

At last evening’s Borough Council meeting, Henry Posner III (Princeton ’77), Chairman of the Railway Development Corporation (RDC) told Borough Council that the proposed relocation of the Dinky will have negative impacts on ridership and impose undue burdens on the public. He proposed to create a public/private partnership, that RDC would fund, to acquire the land under the Dinky from the University, by eminent domain if necessary. http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/2011/05/25/28581/

What the University Will Do If It Receives Satisfactory Rezoning and Land Use approvals.

The list of items, including a promise of shuttle service from the new station, is set forth in a  Memorandum of Understanding or  (MOU).  It  can be read at the  link to the right. Here is the Daily Prince story. The MOU appears to accept the University’s position that relocating the Dinky will “enhance” service.  That premise is contested by planning professionals. The MOU has not yet been endorsed by Borough Council or the Township Committee.

REPORT ON THE MAY 4 BOROUGH MEETING

Borough Council members had many questions regarding the proposed arts distict zoning, including the height permitted, setbacks, and permission as of right for parking garages that could be as high as 100 feet.   Concerns were also expressed about the proposed relocation of the Dinky.   Bob Durkee explained that the relocation is being done to allow a new road to be built into the Lot 7 parking garage.   Continue reading
